Granted, the saying isn’t literally about watches, but it might as well be when you’ve got one of these timepieces on your wrist.
Watches aren’t a one-style fits all and so, variety is just what the watch collector is prescribed. Brands like Bell & Ross and Cartier cater elegantly and often, and these are a handful of what the season has to offer:
Meet the hero of Louis Vuitton‘s 2020 watch collection: a featherlight timepiece that comes with a variant encrusted with 354 diamonds. Diamonds or otherwise, the watch is inspired by the Möbius strip while its new caliber, case, material, strap and buckle are all assembled and finished by hand. The skeletonised dial is encapsulated in an outer case made from a composite material developed exclusively for Louis Vuitton called CarboStratum, produced by layering over 100 assorted sheets of carbon.
Bell & Ross is reminiscing about its origins in high-performance military instruments with this timepiece. The HUD in BR 03-92 HUD stands for Head Up Display; a transparent glass screen that displays all the information, as Bell & Ross puts it, “essential to fulfilling a mission, in the pilot’s visual field.” The watch is produced in a limited edition of 999 pieces with both black rubber and black synthetic fabric straps.
A watch can be urban, casual and sporty at the same time. Just look at the Bvlgari Cities Special Edition 2020, distinct designs taking on inspiration of cities that have hosted Bvlgari in the past; Rome, Tokyo, Dubai, Paris, London, Ibiza, Milan, Mexico City, and New York. Each edition features a 41mm steel case traded with black DLC (Diamond Like Carcon), engraved with the Bvlgari logo and the name of its city. All Bvlgari Cities Special Edition 2020 watches have a brown calf leather strap and a black rubber strap that can be used interchangeably.
Minimalists, meet your match. H. Moser & Cie. has released the Venturer Vantablack Black Hands with neither a logo nor indices. To call the shade ‘black’ is an understatement, as boggling as it sounds. Vantablack claims to be the blackest shade of black ever produced by artificial means, composed of carbon nanotubes 10,000 times more fun than human hair. When a photon hits Vantablack, the material absorbs 99.965% of the light. The only choice you need to make, is between a 39mm and 43mm dial.
