Bulgari has a family saga so rich it inspired us to plot an original jewelry fable for the ages: Lights! Camera! Action!
Cousins Carlota and Ginevra Bulgari (from left, with model Ryu Usuda) are the great-grandchildren of Sotirio Bulgari, who founded the Roman jewelry house in 1884.
Carlota, 24, has worked in Bulgari’s stone and design departments. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in contemporary art at the Royal College of Art, in London.
Ginevra, 24, is also working on a master’s, albeit at the other end of the academic spectrum: economic law, at Paris’s Sciences Po.
Carlota’s and Ginevra’s fathers, Paolo and Nicola, oversaw the house’s U.S. expansion, helped by Bulgari devotee Elizabeth Taylor, who put their work in the spotlight when she wore a Bulgari emerald necklace to receive her Oscar in 1966.
Villa Necchi Campiglio, where this story was shot, was the Milan home of the Necchi heiresses. It was immortalized in Luca Guadagnino’s film I Am Love.
The villa, with its idyllic verandas and richly layered corners, was once the social hub of Milan’s elite. Today it is a museum. casemuseo.it
