With the US Open Tennis Championships kicking off, we expect to see a few more watch brands and tennis announcements coming this week. Many top watch brands have tennis stars on their brand ambassador roster already, and Rolex has the leading role as the Official Timepiece of the event. TAG Heuer announced its additions to the brand’s tennis line up.
TAG Heuer announced that it is signing three next-generation tennis athletes to its list of brand ambassadors. Felix Auger Aliassime, Alex de Minaur, Frances Tiafoe range in age from 19 to 21 and each brings his A-game to the courts. They join 20-year-old Denis Shapovalov of Canada who is already a TAG Heuer brand ambassador since 2017. That year he not only broke into the international tennis scene but also defeated tennis legend Rafael Nadal at the Montreal Masters.
Together the four tennis players will be part of a new “Break Tennis” campaign by TAG Heuer wherein the brand showcases the stars in action and encourages them to break their own records and keep moving forward, breaking tennis records and making a new history.
For TAG Heuer these young tennis stars are all about not cracking under pressure – making them a perfect fit for the brand, whose tag line is “Don’t Crack Under Pressure.” This is also a great way for the brand to support the new generation of talent. Each of these players have already pushed their limits and are moving forward with one of the key characteristics of any great player: determination and precision.
The youngest of the group is 19-year-old Aliassime from Canada, who captured his first ATP Tour win last year at the Masters 1000 Indian Wells, 20-year old Minaur from Australia (the top-ranked male singles player in his country) is the youngest player to play in two consecutive ATP semi-finals since Rafael Nadal did it 15 years ago in 2005. Hailing from America, Tiafoe is 21 years old and is the fourth-best American, and highest-ranking American in his age group.
Each of these athletes will be wearing TAG Heuer timepieces off the courts. Currently, their watches of choice include the Carrera Calibre 16, the Connected Modular 45, the Aquaracer Caliber 5 and Acquaracer quartz.
According to a statement issued by TAG Heuer, Tiafoe says, “I love the fact that TAG Heuer is taking on so many young players and that it wants to build something bigger with us. I look forward to building something unbelievable together.”
To further underscore its commitment to tennis, TAG Heuer also teamed with the Italian Tennis Federation to become the Official Timekeeper and Official Watch of what is called the Next Gen ATP Finals. It will be held at the end of the season and is dedicated to the young players on the rise.
