The 76th Venice International Film Festival is one of the officially recognized events by FIAPF (International Federation of Film Producers Association), the festival highlights international cinema and all of its forms. The Official Partner of the festival for 15 years straight now, Jaeger-LeCoultre not only showcased some of its most impeccable and decadent watches on the wrists of stars on the Red Carpet but also used the Venice Film Festival to unveil an all-new watch: a new edition of the Master Grande Tradition Tourbillon Celeste.

The Celeste is a stunning blue-dial watch with the constellations on the dial in a light blue motif. They surround the oversized flying tourbillon (an escapement that compensates for errors in timekeeping due to the effects of gravity on the wrist) at 6:00. That tourbillon – unlike most – is not stationary on the dial, but instead is an orbital escapement that makes a complete turn around the dial once every sidereal day: 23 hours, 56 minutes and four seconds. Essentially, the wearer not only is able to enjoy the constant motion of the tourbillon cage, but also the dance of the escapement around the dial.
The constellations depicted on the dial represent the northern hemisphere at night and are the zodiac calendar constellations. An outer ring also showcases their corresponding symbols. Making the dial even more appealing is the fact that the constellations and the hour markers are filled with Super-LumiNova to glow like the stars in the dark.
Together the four tennis players will be part of a new “Break Tennis” campaign by TAG Heuer wherein the brand showcases the stars in action and encourages them to break their own records and keep moving forward, breaking tennis records and making a new history.
The new-this-year 43mm 18-karat white gold case (the same one used earlier in the year for the incredible Master Grande Tradition Gyrotourbillon Westminster Perpetual watch) offers a clean and elegant appeal. It houses the 334-part manual movement (caliber 946) that is made in house in Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Le Sentier workshops. The translucent blue dial is also made upstairs in the Rare Handcrafts division in the workshops. There, a host of artisans execute all of the decorative motifs found on the Jaeger-LeCoultre timepieces.
In short, the watch offers hours and minutes indication, zodiac calendar, 24-hour civil time, orbital tourbillon and a sky chart. The mechanical movement boasts 45 hours of power reserve. A sapphire caseback allows for viewing of the meticulously finished movement. Just 28 pieces will be made. It is estimated that each will retail for Euro 155,000. As a high watchmaking piece, the exact US dollar price is not calculated until the day of the purchase to ensure proper exchange rates.

While this model was on display during the Venice Film Festival, most of the celebrities who wore Jaeger-LeCoultre watches opted for other pieces. Some of the female stars, for instance, opted for the brand’s renowned Caliber 101, the smallest movement ever created. This is cased in stunning high-diamond renditions that fit the wrist like a tiny tennis bracelet. Friend of the brand, Nicholas Hoult, wore one of the new Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris watches.
