What you should know
Stone setting
After casting, gems are meticulously set by hand. We add security to the settings by soaking the piece in our ultrasonic to try and loosen the settings. After each soak, the settings are tightened accordingly. It should be noted that metal retains memory and stones should be checked after no more than three months of initial wearing (especially rings) to ensure there has not been too much movement and stones are still tight. Our talented gemstone setters have decades of experience on top of excellent technical training in setting custom cut gemstones, one-of-a-kind pearls, lapidary art, and diamonds.
Know Your Gemstones
To get the most from your jewelry, familiarize yourself with gemstone wearability factors and the safest cleaning methods. Of course, your gems are most vulnerable when worn. If you are having your ring custom designed, discuss protective gem settings with your jeweler. If you are shopping for commercial jewelry, consider rings with the following types of settings and choose one that’s best for you.
Stone setting is one of the essential stages of jewelry making, in which gemstones are attached in a metal casting. The main objective of a stone setting is to hold a gemstone securely as well as to enhance the brilliance of a gemstone by showing its cut, clarity, and color. Jewelry manufacturers use numerous methods to set a gemstone into a jewelry item, which generally is based on gemstone's cut and proportion.
In addition to checking the metal’s purity markings when shopping for jewelry, customers should use a magnifying glass to see if the stones are properly set. If there are prongs, they should be identical, with no space between the metal and the stones. In a pave setting, the metal should lightly cover the diamonds, so they look slightly embedded. In a channel setting, the stones should not overlap.
Age is also a factor in a setting. If you are a vintage jewelry lover, be aware that older jewels can present problems due to [the materials involved. Many such pieces use silver and gold, which are softer metals and therefore make the setting more fragile.
